our 12 year old, sam, told me he was thinking about something he knew i'd like but wasn't so sure about telling me. i said pleeeeeeeeease tell me & bribed him with a back scratch.
it worked & i wrote it alongside this drawing.
i made the hair on this illustration curly & full in honor of him...but i still can't help but draw figures mostly in the female form!
love to all you see & hear & are. xo

Love it--the best!
Yes, I like that! Not taking things for granted, loving the eyes and appreciating them, not only seeing with them, but "seeing" through them!!! What a fellow! Give him another hug!!
i relish the way the two of you communicate...it will remain a special part of this time in your life .. I recall moments like theses as sacred..
So beautiful, and right to the heart. How do you do it dear one!? This one is so special coming from your boy. I am always amazed at the insights that I gather from my children, and how the bring me right back out of my mind and into my body in the simplest of ways. Thank you so much for your encouraging words about our move over on my blog! xoFaith
what an absolutely wonderful moment between the two of you, and what an amazing meaning-full thought he had.
back scratches so work don't they?? :)

How amazingly insightful! I love it!!! From the mouths of babes. Always honest.
That is so charming! I hear you are having snow in St. Paul. We are in caliofrnia now...for medical reasos, not just fun, but it is good to be out of the sno!
What a bright son you have!! Ahhh the wonders of youth!! I can remember thinking those same things!! I want to think those things again...instead i think about mundane things!! Thank him for filling us in again on what it was like back then :D
P.S.. concerning your drawing girls....it's cuz female forms are so much prettier :D
what a message to read on my birthday... that was like the icing on a cake. :D
I like this. It makes me feel extremely lucky and blessed to have mine.
Beautiful statement and moment between you and your son. I think this should be part of a series on the senses.
*listening through these ears
*smelling through this nose
*feeling through these hands
*tasting through this mouth/these buds (taste buds!)
Maybe this concept/idea will evolve in its own way?
As always, thank you for sharing your perspective, Rachel.
Back scratches....such
sweet moments.
Today I became more alive
and saw more through these
eyes because of his
sage words.

Oh Sam, Sam, Sam - what does the Lord have in mind for you? Keep seeing and thinking and wondering and following - and we'll be watching. And Rachel - I'd love to see your drawings of the beautiful "other" gender. This was precious!
What an amazing boy....to be so in touch with the blessing of SEEing...so many people take that for granted...and even more, the awareness of one so young...beautiful.
Sam is becoming a big part of your art and that is a really good thing :)♥
Your sons say the most darling things! Seeing this one and the one below with da pocket full of magic makes my heart swell and my face beam. Definitely moments worth capturing.
xoxox
What a special an wise boy! And his passion is so catching. It is amazing that we get the honor of seeing through these eyes!

Ah..what a sweet post! Hi..this is my first visit to your lovely site. Such lovely work! Thanks for sharing the tender moment between mommie and son.
Oh! Goosebumps! Can't believe you pulled that out of him! No, wait, of course I can!!! Yesterday, my guy was so sad and I finally got him to reveal his thoughts: "I'm sad because I think some things are missing from life and I don't know what they are." I think my heart collapsed when he said it!
Awww...I love this. "From the mouths of babes". I will live & love today with a 12 year old heart! :o)
