the big picture
at the beautiful north shore of lake superior, i stood at a window watching a storm whip up the waves into what looked more like an ocean...i was struck by a comment made by a family member that she loves remembering that we only see a part of the whole and that above the storm clouds the sun is always shining.Friday, January 1, 2010

i love my hands
i was with a new circle of women for a weekend & we were introducing ourselves, by saying our names & stating something special to us. one woman held her hands out for us to see, turning them right side up and down, stating she loves her hands...that they have held her child & beading & creating. this moment took my breath away. here's to the right side of all our beauty!Tuesday, December 1, 2009

so fancy & tall
so fancy & tallyou are
in your
black shoes,
red overcoat,
& fur hat
& you are
almost ready
for church
but first,
you gather
oranges & bananas
& push this grocery cart
with weary eyes
that have
grown smaller
with time.
as you walk deeper
into the aisles
of this
store & church & world,
i call upon
orange peels
& banana trees
to touch your eyes
(please)
& to
refresh & free you
to be
the fullest
of the tall fruit
that you really are.
