amazing love

after a fun family card game of five crowns, we laughed about who broke whose heart, or created black holes in hearts with winning/losing, or displaced a heart from one spot to another, & so on. following such a pondering, the conversation picked back up at bedtime. somehow this led our sons to recalling that worms have five hearts. NOW THEY HAD ME. i raced out of the room to put it in ink. it was they who had a lullaby for me that night. & sweet dreams to all of you too. xo
p.s. i just learned that the lovely hearted lisa just posted an interview of me on her beautiful new blog "strength to be me"& here's the link:

Didn't know that about those worms:) I love that the figure is 'encircled' in your drawing and great interview Rachel!

New appreciation for worms here too. Love that your kiddos lullaby-ed you last night - so sweet.
The interview was fantastic - so inspiring and it was nice to get to "know" your creative heart better.
Happy Tuesday, Strong One.

I work with a group of adults with developmental disabilities who run a vermicompost program at my work and do a great job of educating us on how it functions. One of the things they love to tell is how our red wiggler worms in the compost have five hearts!

How fun that your son made that connection after a game of cards!

you always create the sweetest illustrations.....because they're straight from your heart!! and even though you don't have five hearts (no worms here!!), you only need one, because yours is extra-SPECIAL-enormous!!! xox, :))
p.s. congrats on your interview....i enjoyed reading your "cliff notes"....

Rachel, As I get ready to plant a garden, I will think about those wonderful worms, and their hearts, taking care of the Earth for all of us.

I love the story that goes with this art, and how you ran to put it into your own visual words.

I look forward to reading your interview.

Absolutely gorgeous, and insightful - help us to remember even the tiniest things (that we all too often forget or don't know!) can hold big messages.

Thank YOU for such a lovely interview and such honest answers...what a nice way for your readers to see yet more of you!

i love the story behind this one just as much as the drawing itself! it's so much fun when conversations drift - in this case, from cards to hearts to worms to love to a piece of art!

p.s. great interview! i love how you write in poetry!
